MUST READ: ENTROPY & DEMOCRACY
As it turns out, some things really are set in concrete. Absolutes really do exist in the natural physical world. For example, in science (thermodynamic engineering) the ‘First Law of Entropy’ states that all things naturally gravitate from a state of order, to a state of disorder, unless some force or energy is specifically applied to prevent that natural progression. I use this word constantly to explain to my children their rooms will not clean themselves, but in fact will only get worse unless they apply the energy and effort required to keep it organized and clean. My kids probably do not like the word ‘entropy’, but at least they understand the concept.
Another example of that law can be found in archeological sites worldwide. No matter how carefully or sturdily constructed, all structures will eventually yield to the wearing forces of the earth, its atmosphere, the sun, and time. The sturdy stone structures of the Roman or Grecian empires, even the stoic pyramids designed to last forever, are in ruins. Even with reasonable care, homes built today with wood, plastic, and chalk (sheetrock) will not exist even 300 years from now. Many of us spend a lifetime investing and working to maintain them, but in the end they are all disposable structures. In the short term Linoleum will crack, yellow and disintegrate, plastic siding will eventually grow brittle becoming vulnerable to the forces of wind and nature. Tar and fiber roofs will yield as do all petroleum based products subject to ultraviolet bombardment and temperature variations. On a slightly delayed schedule glued wood products (fiberboard, plywood, particle board, ect) will lose their flexibility or cohesion. Wood dries out and shrinks on its own, losing integrity even faster when subject to insects, moisture, and sunlight. Once stripped of its wood, tar, and plastic façade/support, even concrete, tile, and stone will yield to water and wind, eventually becoming dust and pebble. Steel beams, staples, and nails will rust and disappear. A thousand years from now American suburbia cannot be what it is today, because all structures, roads, and infrastructure must weather and yield.
The point is that the law of entropy is the concept that describes the principals that lead to the certain eventual ruin of all matter organized into useful forms. Gravitation from a state of organized utility, to a disorganized piles of ruin, can be delayed only by continuous application of protective coats and other reinforcements.
The same thing is true of organized societies as well. All modern developed societies will eventually disintegrate to a tribal or feudal state, if forces are not applied to prevent that dissolution. There is ample evidence supporting the utility and advantages of modern forms of democratic governance. Measurable metrics such as food production, life expectancy, wealth creation, health care, education, worker productivity, and others document the advantages of democratic forms of social organizations. To maintain the benefits we have enjoyed for the last 228 years, Americans must continually apply the protective coats to prevent natural weathering, and efforts to supplant it by competing forms of governance. Today there are four broad social groups intent on applying forces to change the American social/political order. I list them here in order of their danger.
1. Socialists: The broad brush of socialism has painted many offshoots world wide. Much of Western Europe is continually being transformed, seduced by socialists false promises. History has demonstrated the chronic failure of the political structure to deliver its promised utopia. All experiments to date have shown that people forced to comply with any rigid totalitarian ideology do not perform nearly as well as free peoples, on any level. Part of the reason for this is the necessary emphasis on indoctrination and coercion necessary for such societies to be maintained. Historically, in its most pure forms, this type of governance has not maintained even the appreciation/support of the ‘common’ worker who helped bring it into power. As such it must always remain fragile, maintained with severe brutal methods of fear and ‘re-education’. The politically correct ‘thought-police’ are much more dangerous in socialist countries than the entities Americans face today.
2. Islamists: Through chaos, subversion, and terror methods, this socio-political order works to replace all forms of representative governance with a ‘sharia’ based Islamic Caliphate. Although presented as a religion, it is in reality a political concept rooted in 8th century Arab tribalism. The Islamic option is essentially a proposal to return to tribal rule. There is ample evidence documenting the failure of the theology to advance the quality of life of peoples living in Islamic regions. The same metrics demonstrate the inferiority of the system. Islam is a force whose tendency is to accelerate the ‘ruin’ of all superior forms of social order. Pure Islam is a military/political movement – a quest for political power for the express purpose of using it to subjugate others.
3. Anarchists: For seemingly irrational core reasons known only to them, anarchists ascribe to a philosophy claiming that all national or global forms of governance are inherently inferior to a society based on no laws, no rules (implying a social order based on ‘survival of the fittest’). The passions behind such extremists are shallow and usually immature, often more an expression of contempt against authority, perceived injustices, and non-power. Anarchists are typically young, cognitively immature, and organized on a very local level. Adherents advocate an inherently self-defeating system that is essentially a non-system. It’s best described as a cult philosophy based on hatred and self-loathing offering no benefits or advantages to any member of society. Anarchists are dangerous because they are easily manipulated by dictators, Islamists, and communists for their own purposes. It seems in all cultures there is always a ready group of anarchist thugs ready to do the bidding of some despot.
4. Dictatorships: Dictators, including Monarchists and Kingships, are not inherently inferior to other forms of social organization. The historical problems with Dictators of all kinds, occur when the ‘great leader’ is driven by any other than altruistic motivations. A truly benevolent, selfless, wise leader can help a people achieve worthy goals. The problem is that ‘absolute power corrupts absolutely’, and even good kings are eventually corrupted or soon replaced by cruel despots. In history, most dictators practice forms of governance that are not harmless. The benefits to the rulers are enormous, so any movement from the masses toward democracy is often viewed as a threat and brutally suppressed. Children with loving, kind, and wise parents eventually mature to the point they desire to leave the social order to gain full independence and self-governance. Though sometimes societies ruled by benevolent rulers are not harmed, neither are they helped into empowerment, because what is natural in a family is normally not allowed in Monarchist societies.
It has been said that we are never more than one generation away from losing the freedoms and advantages our democratic society has enjoyed from the creation of the Constitution. Today we are witnessing something unprecedented. We see two major developments that, left unchecked, threaten our democracy and the Constitution more than any military or weapon ever has. First, we are witnessing the transformation of the once great Democratic party to an umbrella organization encompassing constituents largely ascribing to ever more principals of socialist government. If they succeed in this transformation and seize power, arms of the philosophy (liberal judiciary, media outlets) will unlikely allow their power gains to ever be lost. Second, we are witnessing the increasing worldwide cooperation and alliances between all competing forms of governance. Dictators, Anarchists, Islamists, and Communists/Socialists et all (including socialists who call themselves democrats), are putting aside differences to undermine conservative constitutional based governance, and weaken the nation and its people. Islamists are leading this effort. Various disinformation campaigns, combined with terrorist/anarchist activities act to erode the social principals which have given this nation its power and prosperity. If not maintained and cared for by Americans at large, the erosion of our great democracy, first into European style socialism, then to the “Islamic States of America’, to eventual anarchy and tribal rule, is unavoidable.
Will the current generation fail to act and sacrifice as necessary to prevent forces of social entropy in play today from driving us toward disaster and chaos? Certainly the opportunity to preserve traditional principals of freedom are before us today, but such principals are only as valid and alive as the hearts of the people in whom they thrive. They do not stand on their own, but require energy, passion and work from adherents to remain viable. Democracy can indeed be supplanted by inferior forms of governance if a people fail to protect it. Once lost, the cost of reinstating it is astronomical, if even possible at all.
